HCC Student WebMail System

Acceptable Use Policy

HCC provides email to students, faculty and staff to improve communication among all members of the college community, in support of the college’s mission. We recognize that some users may have no other email account and will therefore use their HCC account for personal communication as well. The following uses are considered not acceptable and will be subject to disciplinary action according to the provisions of the Computing Code of Conduct, the Student Code of Conduct in the current edition of the HCC Student Handbook, and applicable portions of the HCC Staff Manual.

  • Any purposes defined as illegal under local, state or federal law.
  • The transmission of unsolicited information containing harassing, obscene, discriminatory, indecent, lewd or lascivious material.
  • The transmission of any material in violation of U.S. copyright law (U.S. Code Title 17).
  • The transmission of messages to large numbers of recipients (bulk email or spam), or of messages encouraging others to spread them further (chain mail).
  • The use of an account assigned to someone else. This includes forgery or attempted forgery of email messages.
  • The interference with or disruption to network users, services or equipment.
  • The use of email for commercial purposes.

Additionally, HCC will not accept legal liability for the abuse of network and email privileges by members of the college community, and will cooperate with law enforcement agencies as appropriate.

Information Technology will suspend the computing privileges of anyone contravening these guidelines.
